PARLIER, Calif. – Firefighters are trying to figure out what started a house fire that has left a family without a place to stay in Parlier.

The fire started in the 100 block of East Avenue just before 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the fire spread to a neighboring structure and a vehicle. They were able to put those fires out quickly.

Not only did crews have to deal with triple digit heat, but there were also down power lines. It took about 25 firefighters to battle the blaze.

“We called that second alarm for firefighter safety, getting our crews to be able to rehab and change out,” said Jeremiah Wittwer of Fresno County Fire. “Shorter work durations during these extreme heat temperatures right now.”

One person was treated for smoke inhalation. The Red Cross is helping the family. Firefighters say the home is a total loss.
